An interactive instrument interprets bodies as blobs. When do two bodies become one blob in its eye?

Niek Vanoosterweyck: "We have built an interactive instrument where a stepper motor rotates a lens. As the lens spins, it polarizes light and creates resonance. The performers control the speed and rotation of the motor through their movements, allowing them to live-compose and shade light with the instrument. We are currently researching the attunement of the instrument to two bodies/blobs and the possibilities for choreography."

Niek Vanoosterweyck is a mime artist and interactive performance artist working at the intersection of performing arts, technology, and education. He creates augmented performance spaces where the movement of performers or audience is translated into light, sound or scenography.
