Annelieke Holland
Performing the Archive
February 5th 19:40-20:05 February 5th 21:25-21:50 FRAS 2
In Performing the Archive, Annelieke acts as a tape DJ, layering her mother's recordings with echoes from the family timeline. Through the exploration of home footage, past, present and future start to collide. As the daughter of a performing musician looks towards her mother —the first to lay eyes on her— a hall of mirrors unfolds. Is a recording always a performance towards the future? On one cassette, her mother —at the same age Annelieke is now— speaks with a fortune teller, a medium who tells her of things yet to come. How to perform the archive in order to invoke it? Is the performer of the archive a medium themselves?
During COMETOGETHER, Annelieke shares experiments from her research into a family archive, repetitions within a family history, a mother-daughter relationship, recordings of stage art and ways of performing the archive.
