Homies Prayers
March 5th 23:40-March 6th 00:00 FRAS 1
Homies Prayers uses voice, materiality and body as interchangeable agencies. The piece entangles other-than-human mechanisms with juvenilia, journaling and autofiction. The performance draws from an earlier body of sculptural work where a group of homesick and wandering, unrooted creatures are longing to belong, meandering and mutating in alienating economies. Vocoding and autotunning pluggins generate a synthetic choral of female presences referencing medieval female mysticism, thinking through ecofeminism as a care strategy - a kind of labor and a particular relationship.
Monica Mays is a performance and sculpture artist, employing both mediums in relation to their performativity and agency. By investing in other ways of relating to things and others she generates an undoing through redoing, paying attention to materiality as an agentic being. She is currently living and working in Amsterdam, and has exhibited in and performed throughout Europe in The Netherlands, Spain, France, Belgium, Lithuania, Italy, Greece and Czech Republic. She is performing along side composer David Ko, working together towards materializing the invisible by suggesting other ways of listening to things. David graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and is currently studying at the Institute of Sonology.
