Anna Fries

“Cells fuse, split, and proliferate; volumes grow, tissues stretch, and body fluids change rhythm, speeding up or slowing down. Within the body, growing as a graft, indomitable, there is an other." Julia Kristeva THE HOST is a theatrical video installation in progress. It observes processes of mutation and transformation in which a human explores ways of becoming a pregnant monster. With THE HOST maker Anna Fries seeks to expand existing narratives of pregnancy and to de-romanticize and de-feminize pregnant bodies. 

Anna Fries is a maker of performing arts based in Amsterdam and Berlin. From 2014-2018 Anna Fries was the artistic director of game-theatre-collective machina eX. In 2012 they co-founded Henrike Iglesias, a feminist performance collective which has toured expansively in the german speaking countries and just presented their first work outside of Europe at FIBA 2020 in Buenos Aires. Anna Fries also directed shows in German state theaters, the latest work being the world premiere of I LOVE DICK (Chris Kraus) at Staatsschauspiel Dresden. Since 2019 they are a participant at DAS Theatre. Malu Peeters is a sound artist and sound designer who lives and works in Berlin and Amsterdam. She makes radio works and installations, (spatial) sound and composition for exhibitions, theatre and film. She combines field recordings and Foley with spatial sound design, (modular) synths and vocal processing. Malu Peeters is a member of Swiss/German performance collective Henrike Iglesias since 2016; currently touring internationally with OH MY (2018) and Fressen (2019). The audiovisual performative installation [mhm] with light artist Eva G. Alonso is work-in-progress as of late 2019.
