The algorithm provides us with the content that we want to consume. We are our own feed curators. The more you scroll the more holistic your feed becomes. Our devices give us anonymity and provide a safe place to explore our wants and desires. TikTok is a place where fantasy becomes reality. 

#foryou explores how our thirst for social validation fuels a digital dopamine feedback loop. It’s a test to locate the line between our offline and online identities. The more you feed TikTok boys the more they feed you through your feed. This work-in-process is an experiment aimed at examining the creation process behind social media images, making a step-by-step workshop to bring these visual concepts to life.

Xiao Chuyue, is an Amsterdam-based dance maker, performer, and member of Shanghai collective _ao_ao_ing ensemble (老妖精). Xiao experiments with multimedia and brings attention to both atypical and mundane human behaviors, challenging and questioning how our social environments influence us all. During her second year in SNDO’s choreography program, she swipes recommended content as she explores the increasingly blurred space between virtual and reality.
